On October 27, 2025, Cameroon’s Constitutional Council officially declared President Paul Biya the winner of the 2025 presidential election, securing 53.66% of the vote. His closest challenger, Issa Tchiroma, received 35.19%.

At 92 years old, Biya is the world’s oldest sitting president and has now extended his 42-year, 11-month tenure by another seven years, marking his eighth term in office.

Biya first assumed office in November 1982, and his continued leadership places him among the longest-serving heads of state in history. With this new term, he could potentially remain in power until the age of 99, sparking commentary about his symbolic race to become the first president to reach 100 while in office.

Constitutional Council confirmed Biya’s victory, opposition groups have raised concerns over alleged irregularities and post-election tensions. Some reports indicate calls for international investigations and localized protests, particularly in urban centers.
