Kagame: “confrontation is better than begging”
During the swearing-in ceremony of six Rwandan senators on October 24, 2025, President Paul Kagame delivered a powerful message urging Rwandans to reject passivity and dependency. He emphasized that no one should beg for the right to live, and that Rwanda must confront both internal and external challenges with strength and dignity.
“Confrontation is better than begging. Look people in the eye and tell them what must be said,” Kagame declared.
Kagame acknowledged that Rwanda is often held accountable not only for its own actions but also for the mistakes of neighboring countries. He called for extraordinary leadership and resilience, stating:
“We are questioned for our own issues—and for others’. That demands a different kind of governance.”
He reminded citizens that injustice against Rwanda is historical, and while the country may not cause these problems, it must be the one to solve them.
The president stressed that Rwanda’s strength lies not in material wealth but in willpower and clarity of purpose. He urged leaders and citizens to harness emotional and moral strength to navigate adversity.
“We may lack physical power, but we have the strength of heart and determination. That must never be underestimated.”
