Nizeyuhoraho accused of illegal ethanol trade, now on the run
Rwandan law enforcement agencies are actively searching for Pierre Nizeyuhoraho, the CEO of NI & P Company Ltd, after he allegedly fled justice upon learning he was under investigation for illegal ethanol distribution.
The allegations emerged during Operation Usalama, a multi agency crackdown on illicit trade. Authorities revealed that NI & P Company Ltd, which was licensed to import ethanol for regulated use, had instead been selling the chemical unlawfully to unlicensed individuals.
Ethanol is commonly used in beverage production, but its distribution is tightly regulated due to its flammability and potential misuse. According to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry
“The company stored ethanol in unsafe conditions, violating legal standards and endangering nearby communities.”
Investigations also found that the ethanol was being sold on the black market and used in the production of unregulated alcoholic substances locally known as “ibyuma” and “ibuye” especially in Nyabihu District.
RIB confirmed that Nizeyuhoraho fled during the investigation and remains at large. Authorities have issued a public appeal
“Anyone with information on Pierre Nizeyuhoraho’s whereabouts should report to the nearest police or RIB office,” said Dr. Murangira. “If he hears this message, he is urged to come forward and respond to the allegations. Continued evasion will only delay the inevitable reach of justice.”
The ethanol case is part of a broader campaign to dismantle illegal commercial networks and enforce chemical safety standards. Authorities have pledged to intensify inspections and hold violators accountable.
This case underscores Rwanda’s commitment to public safety, regulatory enforcement, and transparency in chemical trade.
