Speaker Tulia Ackson’s house reportedly set ablaze in Mbeya
Amid ongoing unrest following Tanzania’s controversial presidential elections, unverified reports suggest that the residence of Speaker of Parliament Tulia Ackson in Mbeya has been set on fire by protesters. The incident, if confirmed, marks a dramatic escalation in the country’s post-election turmoil.
Dr. Tulia Ackson, a prominent figure in Tanzanian politics, currently serves as: Speaker of the National Assembly
President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), MP for Mbeya Urban
She has also been active in community development through her foundation, Tulia Trust.
The unrest stems from the October 29, 2025 presidential elections, in which President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to secure a second term. The vote has been marred by: Detention of opposition candidates, disqualification of challengers, internet shutdowns and media blackouts, deployment of military forces and curfews
Protesters have taken to the streets in major cities and border towns, demanding transparency and reform. Several government buildings and private properties have reportedly been damaged.
As of now, no credible news outlet has confirmed the fire at Tulia Ackson’s residence, and authorities have not issued a statement. Due to the internet blackout, information from inside Tanzania remains limited, and rumors are spreading rapidly across social media.
The situation in Tanzania continues to deteriorate, with civil unrest, restricted communication, and international concern mounting. Rights groups have called for independent investigations and restoration of civic freedoms, while neighboring countries monitor the crisis closely.
