Adarsh’s story begins in Bihar, one of India’s poorest states, where he was raised by a single mother who believed in his potential. At age 14, he left homewith just $10, determined to pursue education. His mother, despite limited means, spent her life savings on a second-hand laptop to support his dream.

With limited access to electricity and internet, Adarsh used the laptop to explore the world learning from icons like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. But it was his mother’s resilience and frugality that shaped his values.

“I saw the challenges in my family, the people around me, the community. That inspired me to push harder,” he says.

Driven by purpose, he launched a nonprofit on a shoestring budget to help disadvantaged youth gain skills, mentorship, and opportunity.

Adarsh’s initiative has impacted thousands of young people across India. In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Chegg.org Global Student Prize, receiving $100,000 to expand his work.

As a child, Adarsh dreamed of a world without poverty or illiteracy. Today, his mission is more focused:

“My first step of changing the world is to change Bihar… I’ll start from there, changing the lives of people… and hopefully bring it to the entire world.”

His journey is a testament to how one act of love a mother’s gift can ripple into global impact.
