  • FERWAFA President Shema Fabrice confirms the long-awaited hotel will open in January 2026, alongside new sports facilities.

After more than a decade of construction, the FERWAFA Hotel, a four-star facility located in Kigali, is set to officially open in January 2026, according to FERWAFA President Shema Fabrice. The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, during a visit by Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire to sports infrastructure sites in Gasabo, Gicumbi, and Nyagatare, built under the FIFA Forward Project.

“The building is nearly complete, and the city has granted us operational clearance. We’re now accelerating preparations for its launch,” Shema said.

The hotel will initially host national football teams for training camps, as well as coaching seminars and football-related programs. Shema emphasized that the facility will be open to other teams and stakeholders in the sport:

“We plan to begin operations early next year. Our focus is to ensure everything is ready by January 2026.”

In front of the hotel, a new football pitch is under construction. It will serve as a complementary venue to Kigali Pelé Stadium, especially for matches with smaller audiences.

“The pitch meets official standards and will include seating for 1,000 spectators. We’re also building a smaller field for children and local residents from Remera to enjoy community games,” Shema added.

Construction of the 88-room hotel began in August 2015, with an initial completion target set for late 2016. The project was funded by two major partners: FIFA and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, with a total budget of $4 million (over Rwf 4 billion).
