Comedian DeeOne sparks debate over Davido and Wizkid
Nigerian comedian DeeOne has caused a stir on social media after making bold remarks about Afrobeats superstar Davido and his long-time industry peer Wizkid.
In a recent statement, DeeOne alleged that Davido has always looked up to Wizkid and should stop trying to prove a point in music when “Wizkid dey.”
“Davido needs to stop comparing himself to Wizkid. Why would Davido want to prove a point in music where Wizkid dey? Davido has said it severally that Wizkid is his mentor, the internet never forgets,” DeeOne said.
The comedian went further, suggesting that Davido’s presence online makes him seem “more of a content creator than a musician.”
“The internet is a leveler and it has proven that Davido is more of a content creator than a musician. See the way that Davido was running after Peller on TikTok — is that not see finish?” he added.
Known for his outspoken personality, DeeOne himself has had a bumpy career path, having previously tried his hand at music, acting, and stand-up comedy. His critics often point out that despite these attempts, he now spends more time giving unsolicited advice to successful entertainers.
The comments have ignited heated discussions among fans of both Davido and Wizkid, two of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats exports. While some agree with DeeOne’s assessment, others dismiss his remarks as clout-chasing.
